Voltamp’s new Power Transformer Factory was formally inaugurated by  H.H. Sayyid Shihab bin Tariq Al Said on Wednesday, 5th October 2011.

Sheikh Sa'ad bin Mohammed Al Mardhouf al Sa'adi, Minister of Commerce & Industry and Mrs. W Y Lin, President TATUNG Co, Taiwan and distinguished personnel from the Ministries, Government, Semi-Government, Oman Utility Companies, Oil & Gas Sector, Industries, Banks, Financials Institutions, etc.

The new green filed Power Transformer is one of its kind, a World Class manufacturing facility has been built at a Project cost of RO 11 Million over factory built up area of 14,500 sq m on a plot of 80,000 sqm. to the latest global standard. The Technology providers are the Tatung Company of Taiwan. Tatung is a well respected and diversified company, with products which include Heavy Electric products like Gas Insulated Switchgears, Transformers up to 345 kV Class, Wires & Cables, Motors that are exported all over the world including Japan, USA and Australia through branches in 12 countries. Tatung also specializes in Green Technologies and has been a leader in Photovoltaic System for harnessing the Solar Energy.

Voltamp’s vision is to become a major contributor in the Power Sector of Middle East and Africa region by offering quality product and solutions thereby to maximize wealth to stakeholders.

Its mission is to be a manufacturing hub for Power Transformers in the Generation, Transmission and Distribution Networks, thereby providing total solutions towards and meeting the requirements of the Power systems in the Middle East and North Africa region.

The Machinery and equipments have been sourced from the World’s best known vendors like HAEFELY, Switzerland, DELU, Germany, HIPOTRONICS, USA, and LOOTAH LEMMENS, Germany.

The first batch of Omani trade apprentices trained for 6 months in association with Ministry of Manpower have already joined our unit in Sohar since June 2011. Voltamp Power gives constant emphasis on increasing Omanization.
This factory will make Oman proud and put the country into a hi-tech manufacturing will be a major boost in the Industrial prowess of the country. The factory is located in Phase V of the Sohar Industrial Area

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Qais bin Mohamed Al Yousef, Chairman, VOLTAMP said that with the completion of this new World Class Power Transformer Plant the Dream has come true. We now can cater to Oman’s requirement for the complete range from pole mounted to the Extra high Voltage 220 kV Class Power Transformers. We can now offer European Quality at local prices and local service backup.

A dedicated team of Voltamp engineers provide service during installation and commissioning. Voltamp has a full fledged Engineering Services Division will offer Repair Services now up to 315 MVA 220 kV Class Power Transformers. 

Voltamp Energy SAOG is a public company incorporated in the Sultanate of Oman and listed on the Muscat Securities Market. It currently produces a large range of power and distribution transformers, low voltage switchgear and package sub-stations through its 3 manufacturing units at Rusayl. The Company’s new Power transformers factory at Sohar is now ready to commence production. It has the capacity to produce total 6,500 MVA per year up with product range extending up to 315 MVA 220 KV Class power transformers.

Voltamp commences production activities at their New Sohar Plant

Voltamp Energy's unit in Sohar is ready and production activities for 20 MVA 33 kV. Procurement activities have also begun for the 125 MVA 132 kV order received from OETC. The first prototype transformer – 20 MVA 33/11.5 kV will be sent for Special / Type Test at an Independent Laboratories in July 2011.

Voltamp's Unit to be Ready by Year End

Voltamp Energy's proposed world class transformer unit in Sohar will be ready by December this year and the first transformer will roll out from the unit by April next year. The construction work will be completed by December this year and production will commence in January. The first transformer from the plant will be out in April next year.

The work on the RO11 million Voltamp Power project, which is a 100% subsidiary of Voltamp Energy, is in an advanced stage. Now plant roofing is complete and machineries started arriving. Bhargava said that the proposed green field project will manufacture large transformers of up to 500MVA in 220KV class, which is against an earlier plan to produce transformers upto 315MVA capacity in 132KV class. This is for both domestic and export markets. However, in the initial two to three years, it is mainly for the domestic markets.

The 6500MVA capacity sohar unit, which has a technical collaboration with Tatung Company of Taiwan, is being built on global standards - the first of its kind in the entire Mena region. Tatung has been making transformers for the last 40 years and has collaboration with Thosiba of Japan. Bhargava said that Voltamp Power will reach its full annual capacity of 6500MVA withing in three years. We started booking orders for 150MVA capacity transformers in 132KV class.

The new unit, which is coming up in an area of 80,000 square metres plot, will have a built-up area of 14,500 square metres. Sohar, with its proximity to a large port, offers logistics advantages, scoring over sites in the neighbouring countries. One of the key parameters in favour of sohar was a world class port, which will facilitate efficient import of raw materials and export of transformers.

Bhargava revealed that the total annual capacity of Voltamp Energy and its subsidiary Voltamp Power will touch 8500MVE since the installed capacity of the parant firm will be doubled from 1200MVA per annum now. Referring to robust demand, Voltamp chief said, We produce special transformers for oil and gas sector. There are only few manufactures in the region who can make this kind of transformers. Transformer demand has shown a considerable improvement since the start of the year and even the export markets have shown good prospects.

Bhargava said that his company is organising a conference to apprise potential customers on latest technology used by the company. The conference, titled 'The Power to Change Tomorrow', will be held at Shangrila's Barr Al Jissa Hotel on October 6, under the auspices of Mohammed bin Abdullah All Mahrouqi, chairman of Public Authority of Electricity ans Water.

Groundbreaking Event of Voltamp's New Power Transformer Factory at Sohar

Honorable Mr.Qais Bin Mohamed Al Yousef - Chairman Voltamp Energy SAOG symbolically breaks ground at a ceremony on Monday, 22nd March 2010 at PEIE Industrial Estate, Sohar.

(Subsidiary of VOLTAMP ENERGY SAOG) has commenced Construction activities of their new green field, State of the art factory at Sohar for manufacturing Power Transformers.

The factory is designed to produce high quality Extra High Voltage(EHV) 132 KV class power transformers. Spread on a plot area of 80,000 sq meters, the initial covered area of the factory is over 14,000 sq m. When completed, it will be a truly world class facility and the only one of its kind in the GCC Region.

The layout permits expansion of the facility to enable manufacture of transformers of the higher voltage ratings with marginal additional investment.

All major equipment has already been ordered and is being globally sourced from renowned manufacturers. The factory is expected to commence production in Q1 of 2011. The total estimated cost of the factory is about RO 11 million.

Sohar New Plant

The power transformers will be manufactured under license from TATUNG COMPANY of Taiwan. TATUNG is a well known, diversified international company which designs and manufactures a wide variety of industrial products. Tatung is a leader in the Power and Energy business and its products are exported all over the world including Japan, USA and Australia. Tatung Transformers, being manufactured for more than 40 years are known for their quality and reliablilty, as well as for the rugged construction, most suitable for the ambient conditions in the MENA region.

Voltamp commenced operations as a LLC company manufacturing electrical switchgear in 1987 and has continually improved its product offerings. It currently manufactures a wide range of transformers and switchgear. The company's products find acceptance in a wide range of sectors including utilities, oil & gas, infrastructure and construction. Voltamp has won the coveted His Majesty's Cup on four occasions as a distinguished company promoting Oman's economy. In mid 2008, Voltamp became an SAOG company and currently has over 28,000 share holders.

Board Decision on further Investment in Voltamp Manufacturing Co.Qatar

Decision of the Board of Voltamp Energy SAOG on further investment in Voltamp Manufacturing Company LLC, Qatar(VMCQ), a 51% subsidiary of Voltamp Energy SAOG taken by circulation on the evening of 13th January 2010.

The Board deliberated in detail the Management’s request for further investment of QR 15 Million in VMCQ. After careful examination of all facts noted the following:

* There was a delay in getting factory approval.
* The product of VMCQ is not yet approved in Qatar by the local utility company KAHRAMA and hence they are unable to sell in the local market currently.
* Accumulated loss as per provisional accounts of VMCQ as on 31.12.09 is QR 8,537,578. VMCQ has suffered substantial losses in last two years which has eroded the capital of the Company by 57%.

In view of the above, the Board decided not to invest further as the same will not be in the best interest of the Company and Voltamp Energy Shareholders and advised the representative directors on VMCQ Board to explore all options within the next couple of weeks to limit further losses to the Company.

However, the Board resolved that Voltamp Energy will honor its commitments to date.

The Executive Management would like to inform the Shareholders of Voltamp Energy SAOG that the Board of Directors has held its meeting No 1/2009 on January 15th 2009.,

Appointment of Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Alok Bhargava has been appointed as CEO of Voltamp Energy SAOG from 6th December 2008. He has 28 years of experience with four well known large companies in the power sector, mainly in the areas of General Management, EPC contracts, Business Development, after sales services and Projects Development / Implementation.

Adjournment of CGM

Due to lack of quorum in the first constitutive general meeting on 03/07/08, the Constitutive Committee of Voltamp Energy SAOG (Under Transformation) is pleased to invite all shareholders to attend the 2nd Constitutive General Meeting of the Company scheduled at 11 am on Thursday 24th of July 2008 at Business Hall, Capital Market Authority (CMA) Ruwi, Muscat to consider the Agenda same as previous meeting.
